A reminder to members that all sires need a DNA profile at the SAC in order for their progeny to be registered, and all AI bulls must be parentage verified to both their sire and their dam. Donor dams must also have a DNA profile in order for their ET progeny to be registerable.
Keep in mind that hair can be stored indefinitely in individual paper envelopes with the animal’s identification written on the envelope and places in a dry, dark place such as a filing cabinet. Do not store samples in plastic bags or in the fridge/freezer as moisture can cause the DNA to degrade. These stored samples can save a lot of headaches in the future.
Pull that hair before you turn out your bulls to the pasture!
